A Daughter of the Sioux was written by Charles King. After retiring from a distinguished military career, Brigadier General Charles King used his life experiences as inspiration for a series of acclaimed novels and screenplays. A Daughter of the Sioux is a gripping wartime tale of deceit, duplicity and secret identities that packs plenty of action and adventure into a compact, entertaining read. Charles King (October 12, 1844 – March 17, 1933) was an American soldier and a distinguished writer. Born in New York capital, Albany, King was the son of Civil War general Rufus King, grandson of Columbia University president Charles King, and great grandson of Rufus King, who was one the signers of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787, in Philadelphia. He graduated from West Point in 1866 and served in the Army during the Indian Wars under George Crook. He was wounded in the arm and head during the Battle of Sunset Pass forcing his retirement from the regular army as a captain in 1879. During this time he became acquainted with Buffalo Bill Cody. King would later write scripts for several of Cody's silents films. He also served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1882 until 1897, becoming Adjutant General in 1895. In the spring of 1885, General King (at that time a captain in the National Guard) was riding in the area of Delafield, Wisconsin after visiting the Cushing homestead on the Bark River (present day Cushing Park) and the parents of the three historic Cushing Brothers. Captain King came upon a man dressed in a bathrobe drilling young men with broomsticks.

Charles King's 'An Apache Princess (Illustrated Edition)' is a captivating novel set in the Old West, intertwining themes of love, honor, and betrayal. Written in a style reminiscent of the romanticized Western literature of the late 19th century, this book transports readers to a time when the frontier was untamed and the clash between cultures was at its peak. King's vivid descriptions and engaging narrative make this novel a standout in the genre, appealing to both fans of historical fiction and Western literature. The illustrations included in this edition enhance the reader's experience, bringing the story to life in a visually stunning way. Charles King's attention to detail and depth of character development set this novel apart from others of its time. Charles King, a former military officer in the United States Army, drew upon his firsthand experiences on the Western frontier to craft 'An Apache Princess.' His understanding of the complexities of Native American relations and his admiration for the Apache culture shine through in this novel. King's unique perspective adds layers of authenticity and depth to the story, making it a compelling read for history enthusiasts and fans of Western fiction. I highly recommend 'An Apache Princess (Illustrated Edition)' to readers who appreciate well-researched historical fiction with a touch of romance and adventure. Charles King's immersive storytelling and nuanced portrayal of the American West make this novel a must-read for anyone interested in the rich tapestry of frontier literature.

"Under the willows at the edge of the pool a young girl sat daydreaming, though the day was nearly done. All in the valley was wrapped in shadow, though the cliffs and turrets across the stream were resplendent in a radiance of slanting sunshine. Not a cloud tempered the fierce glare of the arching heavens or softened the sharp outline of neighboring peak or distant mountain chain…." Charles King was an American soldier and a distinguished writer. King served in the Army during the Indian Wars under George Crook but he was wounded in the arm and head during the Battle of Sunset Pass forcing his retirement from the regular army as a captain in 1879.
